What are the Steps to Join the Merchant Navy:
. Students who want to join the merchant navy must follow the steps indicated below.
. Candidates must pass their class 12 board examinations with a necessary subject
combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, as well as an overall grade point average of 60% or equivalent.
They can next register for and pass the IMU CET entrance tests, followed by an interview conducted by marine colleges
or universities and a medical examination stage.
. Candidates must then undertake a BSc nautical science program (3 years) OR marine engineering (4 years) at any of the top
nautical science and marine engineering colleges around the country.
. Deck officers must then finish their 12-month cadet aboard training and register for the competence exam
issued by the Indian government.
. Join as a Third Officer and then apply for rank upgrades and promotions. After starting as a Third Officer, applicants can
take competency exams and pass with flying colors till they get promoted to Captain step by step.
. Procedure for DNS entry is given separately.
. Engineer officer's must complete 6 months as a trainee on board after graduating from a marine engineering college.
